FVHS AP3 Summer ReadingThis summer please read these texts as you would a book in an AP or university class. Students are strongly encouraged to take notes on their reading, while they are reading (active reading), and read the text more than once. We highly suggest you purchase the novel so you can annotate directly in the book.

Glossaries of Rhetorical TermsAP Students: sometimes you will be offered multiple definitions for the same term. Make sure you study the rhetorical device. The litmus test for this should be whether or not you can identify and write an example of that device. For example, the first definition of the term "atmosphere" is "the envelope of gases surrounding the earth or another planet"; however, you cannot identify an example of this as a rhetorical strategy in literature. You should, therefore, use the second definition: "the pervading tone or mood of a place, situation, or work of art."
